CONTEXT – AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME
The project IchTO has drawn up an inventory of the fish fauna of the sea bottom to the west of Toulon (S.E. France). Situated between the Port-Cros National Park and the Calanques National Park, this area is of considerable importance with regard to the conservation of the natural patrimony.

In addition to providing fundamental ecological knowledge, this study offers the means to assess the richness of the fishes in the territory. The results should :
- provide essential information for the managers of this sector and of the fisheries resources,
- serve as a reference for the monitoring of the marine environment in the face of global change : climate warming, alteration of biodiversity, appearance of fishes of southern or exotic origin, pollution, etc.

Two census surveys were carried out in 2012 at seven sites between Cap Sicié and Les Embiez archipelago, to the west. The fishes were identified, counted and the size of individuals estimated by diver-scientists.
