The legislation in France

In France, ‘protected species’ status may be attributed to certain species of wild flora or fauna on the basis of their conservation status on French territory.

The number of marine species protected under the French legislation is very small ; for the most part, these species are also protected at different levels by the European (Bern and Barcelona conventions) or international (Washington convention) legislation.
