From International Women’s Rights Day to World Ocean Day!

Modified on : 07 Mar 2025

The launch of the Women Actions For The Ocean (WAO) campaign took place on Friday 7 March at the French National Assembly, thanks to the support of MP Eléonore Caroit. The WAO event will be held on 8 June in Nice, on World Ocean Day, as part of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3).

On the eve of International Women’s Rights Day, Friday 7 March marked the institutional launch of WAO at the French National Assembly. The aim of the initiative is to highlight concrete solutions and success stories from women from all walks of life to tackle climate change and the loss of marine biodiversity.

From 8 March to 8 June, you will be able to watch video portraits of women around the world who are committed to preserving the oceans. These stories of impactful action will mark out the international calendar and enrich the debate leading up to the WAO event on 8 June at UNOC3, where a final documentary will be shown and thematic panels will deepen the conversations.

A huge thank you for their presence today to : Françoise Gaill (Towards IPOS (International Platform for Ocean Sustainability)), Loreley Picourt (Ocean & Climate Platform), Rym Benzina Bourguiba (La Saison Bleue), Patricia Ricard (Institut Océanographique Paul Ricard), Valérie VERDIER (IRD), Cristina Tebar Less (Women for Sea), Lilou Sciortino Monaco, Salomé Sifaoui (members of the Ambassador’s UNOC3 Task Force), Agathe Laurent, Leslie Valloir (National Assembly), Emilie Siguier and Rose M. (Institut Océanographique Paul Ricard). And to all those who have joined the movement more generally!

As far as the Institut Océanographique Paul Ricard is concerned, don’t miss Patricia Ricard’s upcoming videos.

Stay tuned to our social networks to follow this campaign! #WAO #UNOC3
